iPhone: An Introduction

4 sessions of 2.5 hours

Students are encouraged to bring their iPhone to class.

You’ll learn about iPhone settings and navigation, how to use the iPhone’s native apps, how to find and download third-party apps, how to use the iPhone camera, Safari – Apple’s internet browser – how to send email and text messages, how to use Siri (so you don’t have to type!), and even how to make phone calls! You will also be introduced to Maps, the Calendar, Reminders, and Notes Apps, and some basic uses of iCloud. In short, this course will teach you everything you need to know to be able to use this incredible device.

Lesson 1: Basic Settings, Operation, Contacts, Email & Messages

In this first class, you will get the basics of how to operate your iPhone and the settings that will help it become most useful to you. You will learn how to move and delete icons, several ways to make phone calls, send emails, text messages, and set up your contacts.

Lesson 2: Great Apps & Safari

Apps are what put the “smart” in the smartphone. In this session, you will learn how to use the apps that come pre-installed on the iPhone, and how to search for, download and manage some of the many apps that are available. Learn how to surf the Internet using Safari, Apple’s browser and save your favorite bookmarks.

Lesson 3: The iPhone Camera & Photo App

When world-famous photographer Annie Leibovitz was asked in an interview what kind of camera people should buy, she responded, “An iPhone.” This session will help explain why she said that. Ease of use is one reason. Another is that editing your photos right on the phone has become so easy that great pictures are easy to create. You will learn how to share pictures with friends and family and find your photos in the Photos App.

Lesson 4: Siri, Maps, Calendar, Notes, Reminders & iCloud

Get tips on using Siri, the Maps, Calendar, Reminders & Notes Apps. Learn about iCloud and why it’s important to you.
