STUFF TO KNOW

Registration is open until 10 AM sharp one day before the start of a class. To participate in our classes register and pay online with a credit or debit card. If you prefer to pay by check or cash, contact the office at 631-470-6757, or register in person at OPEN HOUSE at Huntington, Bay Shore, and Blue Point.

If the class is sold out and you would like to receive an email if/when the class is offered again, please send an email to fslseniornet@fsl-li.org. Be sure to include the name of the class you are interested in.

Students are encouraged to bring their charged iPad to class.

Expand your knowledge of the iPad’s capabilities. Subjects covered are Safari settings and Safari searches, creating and using Bookmarks, adding a website icon to your home page, closing Safari tabs, activating and using Siri, navigating with maps, streaming music, the iTunes Store, reading and downloading eBooks.

Students are encouraged to bring their charged iPhone to class.

Starting from scratch or taking this course as a refresher you’ll gain confidence using an iPhone. Basic subjects covered are communicating with others using the phone, email and text messages, and using Safari (Apple’s internet browser). Building on this, we will cover using voice-mail and contacts (the address book), as well as downloading and organizing apps. In short, this two-lesson class will give you confidence in using this incredible device.

You need to learn about the Cloud if your computer hard drive or cell phone storage are getting full, if you aren’t automatically backing up all those irreplaceable photos of your grandchildren, or if you want to easily share documents and photos with friends and relatives. You can do all these things and more using the Cloud. Join SeniorNet’s free seminar to learn all of the advantages of using the Cloud and focus on two of the most popular Clouds – Apple’s iCloud and Google Cloud. You also will learn how you can get up to 15 gigabytes of storage for no cost with Google Cloud. It is not as bewildering as you may think – SeniorNet can help demystify the Cloud and help you organize your digital life!

Microsoft New Outlook Mail Client

Microsoft has just replaced the Windows Mail & Calendar App with the New Outlook mail client that comes packaged with Windows. Accounts in your Microsoft Mail will automatically be transferred to the New Outlook. New accounts can be added.

Tuesdays from 9:30 AM – 12 PM on June 4, 11, 18, 25

You will need to bring your Mac Laptop & mouse to class to participate in this class. Prerequisite: none
Knowledge of these basic functions is a prerequisite for all other Mac computer-based classes.

Come join us and learn the amazing things a Mac LAPTOP can do. You will learn how to use the Photos app and create slideshows. We will also cover the App Store, Apple Pay, Mail & Messages, Internet basics and so much more. Learning about System Preferences and how to navigate the Dock helps you use your Mac in a more productive way. You will need to bring your laptop (and mouse) to class. Please make sure your laptop is charged and running the latest operating system.

PC Computer Basics 2

Tuesdays from 1 PM – 3:30 PM on June 4, 11, 18, 25

4 sessions of 2.5 hours each / $45

Prerequisite: PC Computer Basics 1 (formerly named Introduction to Computers 1)
Knowledge of these basic functions is a prerequisite for all other computer-based classes.

This four-lesson class will build on the skills you started to develop in PC Computing Basics 1. We will teach you to enhance your desktop, the basics of the file system, and advanced features of word processing. We will teach you how to access the Internet and how to save your most frequently visited websites. Additionally, you will learn how the use the new free Microsoft Outlook mail client.

Looking for PERSONALIZED INDIVIDUAL TRAINING? Let us know your technical training request, and we’ll match you with our experienced faculty. We provide individual training, so a student can concentrate on learning a specific subject on their desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Some examples are:

  • How do I download a free library book to my mobile device?
  • How do I get music onto my mobile device (smartphone or tablet)?
  • How to organize and share photos?
  • Looking for a password manager?
  • Maybe you have questions about your laptop’s anti-virus program.
  • How do I find my files using Window’s File Manager?
  • Mobile Devices: iPhone / iPad / Android Questions
  • How do I host a Zoom meeting?
  • What would you like to learn? Let us know.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION FEES

The fee for the each hour is $20 payable three business days in advance. Handouts may be included.

REFUND POLICY

Classes not canceled by giving at least one business day advance notice to the instructor are non-refundable.
